Final Fantasy XIV Online gets its Newfound Adventure 6.1 patch next week

Square Enix has revealed the details of the 6.1 patch for MMO Final Fantasy XIV Online, dubbed Newfound Adventure.

The studio detailed its plans via its regular Letter From the Producer broadcast over the weekend with director/producer Naoki Yoshida. The update will introduce plenty of new content for fans, including main quests, scenario quests and more. However, one of the main additions will be the introduction of the Duty Support System.

This new system will allow those who don’t have the time or inclination to search for a party the ability to solo dungeons. Instead, they’ll be able to take on any 4-player main scenario dungeon or trial with a party of NPCs. Yoshida also says that there’ll be more provisions for solo play in the future too. These include revisions to Cape Westwind and later duties, and future patch 2.x content and the game’s expansions like Heavensward.

Elsewhere, the patch adds a new 24-Player Alliance Raid. It’ll be the first in a planned series called Myths of the Realm: Aglaia that promises to unveil more about the Twelve. On top of that, the patch brings a new Residential area and a new Extreme Trial called The Minstrel’s Ballad: Endsinger’s Aria. The update also includes the first beta version of the Adventurer Plates system. Finally, there’s also PvP updates and job adjustments and the ability to try on gear from the store.

You can check out a trailer for the new update below, or read a more detailed breakdown over here. Patch 6.1 Newfound Adventure launches for Final Fantasy XIV Online on April 12 for the game on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.

SnowRunner heading to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 at the end of May

Focus Entertainment & Saber Interactive have announced SnowRunner is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on May 31.

The off-road driving game will get its new-gen upgrades in just less than two months’ time. They’ll be able to tackle the game’s tough terrain and punishing weather conditions in up to 4K UHD resolution at 60FPS. Those on the PlayStation 5 will also enjoy Haptic Feedback support via the console’s DualSense controller.

Return to Monkey Island announced from original creators Ron Gilbert & Dave Grossman

Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games have announced Return to Monkey Island, a new entry in the classic pirate adventure series.

The announcement confirms the game as a direct follow-up to the Secret of Monkey Island & Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge. We assume this means it’ll ignore the subsequent games in the series, similar to the recent Halloween movie reboot? But this is speculation as there’s not too much more information on what else to expect, with further plot and gameplay details under wraps for now.

Behind the scenes however, there’s quite a few facts that will please Monkey Island fans. First up, Terrible Toybox is developing, previously responsible for 2017’s excellent Thimbleweed Park. That means the series is actually coming home, because the head of that studio is series creator Ron Gilbert. Joining Gilbert is another of the original game’s writers – Dave Grossman*.  Supporting them are the previously-mentioned Lucasfilm Games and Devolver Digital.

We also know that the original voice of Guybrush Threepwood, Dominic Armato, will be reprising his role too. Anything else, for the moment, is being kept close to the (treasure) chest for now. We don’t even know what formats the game will release on just yet. However, the parties involved have been working on the game for two years already, and have promised we’ll see Return to Monkey Island later this year. For now, you can check out the teaser trailer below.

*The only person missing from the original three writers is, of course, Tim Schafer. But we assume he’s busy at the Microsoft owned Double Fine for now.

Citizen Sleeper is a space-faring narrative RPG coming to Xbox, Switch and PC next month

Fellow Traveller and Jump Over The Age have announced narrative space RPG Citizen Sleeper will arrive on Xbox, Switch and PC on May 5.

The game takes place on a ruined space station known as Erlin’s Eye. You play a Sleeper, who’s a digitised human consciousness in an artificial body. The bad news is, the corporation who owns your body kinda wants it back. You’ll have to explore the space station, meet its many denizens and earn your existence in this interstellar capitalist society.

Each cycle you’ll choose what you want to do, whether that be honest work in the yards, a bar shift or searching the markets for rare components. Maybe you’ll decide to hack the space system or uncover secrets or make or break alliances? Success is determined on dice rolls, skills and drives you’ll mould as you play. Basically, think Disco Elysium but set in space, and you’re on the right lines.

The station has a huge cast of characters you’ll get to meet including salvagers, engineers, hackers, bartenders and more. Each of these characters has their own history of why they came here, and you can choose to help as many or as few as you like. Ultimately your choices will decide whether you survive another day, or not. Eventually, you’re aiming to change your future and perhaps be free of your fate.

You can check out a trailer for the game for yourself down below. Citizen Sleeper launches on May 5 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. The game will also be available from day one via Xbox Game Pass.

PlayStation Now April 2022 additions include Outer Wilds, WRC 10 and Journey to the Savage Planet

The latest games coming to PlayStation Now have been revealed, with the next four titles added on April 5.

We start with time looping puzzler Outer Wilds. You’re a member of the titular space program, exploring a mysterious galaxy that comes to an abrupt end every 22 minutes. You’ll have to use the time and the loops to try and solve the mystery of why. Along the way, you’ll encounter tricky puzzles, other space-farers & a bunch of unique planets with their own secrets to uncover.

In a similar vein, Journey to the Savage Planet sees you arrive on, well, a savage planet. You can explore this new hostile world alone or with friends, and determine whether it’s safe for humans to inhabit. That’s also joined by rally sim WRC 10 FIA World Rally Championship. Featuring the 2021 WRC season, 19 events from the history of the WRC and an extensive career mode, you won’t be short on rally action.

Finally, Werewolf : The Apocalypse – Earthblood is an action RPG set in the World of Darkness universe. While that universe’s most famous offering Vampire: The Masquerade deals with blood suckers, here you’re a lycanthrope. After a self-imposed exile due to a wolfy-rage incident, you’re now on a quest for redemption.

All four games will be added to the PlayStation Now service on April 5. There’s no word on anything leaving in this drop, but it’s worth noting it’s the penultimate month before PlayStation Now will be rolled into the new & improved PlayStation Plus service in June.
